Mayoral message
It’s almost that day of the year when an army of volunteers around Australia unite in a show of pride in our beautiful country
Clean Up Australia Day 2024 will be held nationwide on Sunday 3 March and is a reminder to all of us that we have a role to play, in not only keeping our streets and neighbourhoods clean but also protecting our natural environment.
The hugely popular day had humble beginnings when a determined resident decided to clean up their local street some thirty years ago. Since then, the event has grown nationally with more than 21 million people pitching in to help clean up and create lasting positive change.
Our residents share that determination and this year, Canterbury-Bankstown has around 35 registered clean-up groups.
Even if you only have an hour to spare, I encourage you to join your local clean-up site.
You can join an existing group, register your own team or even just collect litter in your street or local park.
I’m always so proud to see how our community comes together to help make a big impact, and I am certain we will have another successful year of cleaning up our city.
And if you can’t make it to one of the clean ups, there are plenty more opportunities to tune into our natural environment and help keep it clean.
From March-May each year, Council hosts and promotes a series of events to explore and help clean up the rivers in our city, which are home to a range or endangered plants and animals.
‘We Love Our Rivers’ is the perfect opportunity to learn how we can each help to reduce pollution in our local waterways and keep them clean and safe for everyone.

Keeping our city clean and beautiful is on all of us!
Regards,
