NSW:

NSW recorded 646 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

Two new cases were acquired overseas in the same period, bringing the total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 67,480.

Sadly, NSW Health is reporting the deaths of eleven people who had COVID-19 – two women and nine men.

Two were in their 50s, one in their 60s, four in their 70s, and four in their 80s.

Five were from south-western Sydney, three were from western Sydney, one was from south-eastern Sydney, one was from Sydney’s inner city, and one was from Sydney’s lower north shore.

Seven people were not vaccinated, three had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and one had received two doses.

A man in his 80s was a resident at Allity Beechwood Aged Care Facility, where he acquired his infection. It is the fourth death linked to an outbreak at this facility.

There have been 414 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021 and 470 in total since the start of the pandemic.

There have been 61,808 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

There are currently 856 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 170 people in intensive care, 75 of whom require ventilation.

There were 103,388 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 112,186.

NSW has reached the 70 per cent double-dose vaccination milestone. We thank everyone who has come forward to protect themselves, their loved ones and the wider community from COVID-19.

NSW Health administered 23,101 COVID-19 vaccines in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 10,707,149, with 3,708,962 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 6,998,187 administered by the GP network and other providers to 11.59pm on Wednesday 6 October 2021.

To 11.59pm on Wednesday 6 October across NSW, 89.4 per cent of the over-16 population had received a first dose COVID-19 vaccine, and 70.3 per cent were fully vaccinated.

NSW Health’s ongoing sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in sewage samples collected from across NSW, including Wee Waa in the Hunter New England region and Quirindi and Brewarrina in western NSW.

Everyone in these areas is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, to immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

If you are directed to get tested for COVID 19 or self-isolate at any time, you must follow the rules whether or not the venue or exposure setting is listed on the NSW Health website.

It remains vital that anyone who has any symptoms or is a close or casual contact of a person with COVID-19, isolates and is tested immediately. When testing clinics are busy, please ensure you stay in line, identify yourself to staff and tell them that you have symptoms or are a contact of a case.

Please check the NSW Government website regularly, and follow the relevant health advice if you have attended a venue of concern or travelled on a public transport route at the same time as a confirmed case of COVID-19. This list is being updated regularly as case investigations proceed.

Victoria:

Victoria has recorded 1,838 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and five deaths.

It marks the highest daily case tally in any Australian jurisdiction since the beginning of the pandemic.

The peak of Victoria’s daily infections is projected to still be weeks away, with social gatherings around the AFL grand final weekend linked to the surge in numbers.

However, health authorities have said the state is still on track to reach the vaccination targets set out in Victoria’s roadmap in order to lift lockdowns.

There were 36,600 doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered at state-run sites yesterday, and tens of thousands more through GPs and pharmacies.

More than 84 per cent of Victorians have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while more than 55 per cent are now fully vaccinated.

The cases were identified from 77,554 tests processed on Thursday.

It brings the total number of active cases in the state to 16,823, which is another record for the state.

The five deaths bring the toll for the current outbreak to 75.

Queensland:

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the rules will ease from 4:00pm today but people should still wear masks wherever they cannot socially distance.

Meanwhile, the Victorian government has unveiled plans to bring international students back into the state, but the first phase of the scheme will be limited to just 120 students per week.
