A 21-year-old has been charged after an alleged COVID-19 ‘prank’ on a police officer on the NSW mid-north coast.
Police allege a man entered Coffs Harbour Police Station and approached a 71-year-old female general station officer about 2.30pm on Tuesday.
The man is accused of deliberately coughing on the woman while pretending to be infected with COVID-19.
Police allege his friend was nearby filming the incident.
The police station was closed while officers investigated the man’s claims.
It was later revealed the man did not have the virus, which has killed more than 18,600 across the globe.
The Coffs Harbour man was charged with “stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty”.
He is due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on May 6.
