Dear Resident
It is such an exciting time in our City as we open up and get back to business. Indeed, it is heartening to see people returning to the shops, spending money and boosting our local economy after more than three months of lockdown.
There are more than 36,000 local businesses in our City. They create jobs, employ locals, stimulate economic activity and provide essential goods and services, like automotive services, cafes, early childhood centres and even the corner butcher and baker.
We don’t want to see these businesses or jobs disappear as they add to the character and vibrancy of the City. That’s why Council will continue to work hard to support our local business community.
But we all have a part to play. And I call on you to shop locally, spend big, eat at local restaurants and hire local tradespeople. By buying and shopping local, we ensure that our City’s businesses can bounce back on the other side of COVID-19.
We will also encourage local businesses to reach out to you by messages on social media about their business and the deals available.
I understand, retailers have strengthened their COVID safety protocols and we support them in their efforts to keep their businesses open and to keep their staff and customers safe.
Once again, a big thank you to all our local businesses for your patience and the sacrifices made during this pandemic to keep us all safe.
Thank you for the enormous contributions you continue to make to the City. Let’s hope the next twelve months is a prosperous one for us all!
