MORE OPEN AND GREEN SPACE IN LEPPINGTON TO SUPPORT MORE HOUSING

Leppington locals will enjoy more open and greener spaces following a $352,000 investment from the NSW Government into Varroville Reserve.

The project is part of the 2023-24 round of the $3 million Metropolitan Greenspace program which will provide better access to public and open space for more than 30,000 people spread across eight metropolitan council areas.

The program invests in places where people can gather with vital biodiversity improvements. Funding will go towards creating great places to live by connecting and upgrading parks, wetlands, new active transport links and trails.

Once complete, the projects will provide new and improved public and open spaces, activities and opportunities for over 30,000 residents to get out into the community, be active and enjoy the great outdoors.

Grants were made available to eligible councils for projects which improve community access for recreation and relaxation.

The Metropolitan Greenspace program is the longest-running open space grants initiative in NSW.

It has provided over $56 million to metropolitan and Central Coast councils since 1990 for 680 projects.
