60 local students recognised at 2024 Blaxland Community Service Awards

Minister for Education and Federal Member for Blaxland, Jason Clare MP has once
again recognised the outstanding efforts of 60 local students at his sixteenth annual
Blaxland Community Service Awards Ceremony held at Granville South Creative
and Performing Arts High School.

The special presentation ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate the enormous
contribution students make to their school and our wider community was attended by
over 270 guests including families, school principals and teachers.

“These awards recognise students from 57 schools across our local area for the
outstanding work they do in our community. They have all done something special
that makes them a local hero,” Mr Clare said.

“Amina Aljamo, Year 10 Student from Merrylands High School, flawlessly delivered
an address at the Annual Conference of the NSW Secondary Deputy Principals
Association in September 2024, despite English being her third language, and
having less than 1 year experience in Australian schools.”

“Raneem Al Khaled, Year 11 Student from Birrong Girls High School volunteered her
time to fundraise for the ‘Orange the World Campaign’ to increase awareness of
domestic violence and assemble birthing kids to aid women in disadvantaged
circumstances.”
“And our youngest student on the night was Aaliyah Djouah, Year 2 Student from
Sefton Infants School, who at just 6 years old, created the ‘Zero Lo Pro’ initiative to
address the issue of lost property in the school, even creating promotional
materials.”

“Our community has a proud tradition of community service – I congratulate and
thank all the students for their efforts to uphold this tradition,” Mr Clare said.
Throughout the evening, guests were entertained by student performances from
Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School.
