In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, the World Lebanese Cultural Union (WLCU) Oceania Branch held an Iftar dinner for its members in Australia, during which it honoured several media professionals for their pivotal role in supporting the organisation and shining a light on its cultural, social, and intellectual initiatives.

The event was emceed by Eng. Badwi El-Hage, the WLCU’s Media Officer for the Continental Council, who opened by extending warm Mother’s Day wishes to mothers around the world—especially those in Australia and the homeland—offering prayers for relief from the suffering caused by wars, injustice, and oppression.

Dr. Abraham Constantin, the Continental President of the WLCU, followed with a speech thanking the media representatives for their tireless efforts in uplifting Lebanon’s image abroad. He emphasised the Union’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Lebanese diaspora and advocating for their rightful civil entitlements in their country of origin.

A pre-recorded message from the World President of the WLCU, Mr. Abbas Fawaz, was also played during the evening. In his address, Fawaz expressed gratitude to all attendees, especially the media professionals, noting that they deserve to be celebrated every day for their role in bridging the gap between the diaspora and Lebanon. He concluded by wishing a Ramadan Mubarak to Muslims and a Happy Easter to Christians across the globe.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation, awarded by the WLCU in recognition of the media’s dedication and efforts in keeping the Lebanese spirit alive in the diaspora and ensuring continuous coverage of the Union’s activities.

Those honoured on the night were:

Joseph Khoury OAM

Elham Hafez

Said Mikhail

Nadine Al Shaar

Ola Bayad

Dalida Iskandar Maikey

Dr Mamdouh Sukkarieh

Dr. Charbel Tadros

The WLCU also extended its gratitude to Mr. Tony Bou Melhem, a valued Union member and owner of the City View venue where the event was held, who was acknowledged for his consistent support and generous hospitality in hosting numerous cultural and social events.

The evening served as a beautiful reminder of the strong bond between the Lebanese diaspora and their homeland, and of the vital role media plays in nurturing that connection.
