Member for Watson, Tony Burke MP, has announced that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will supporting a community centre at Saint Charbel’s Monastery and Parish.

Labor’s $8 million election commitment will assist the Lebanese Maronite Order (LMO) and their vision for the future of Saint Charbel’s Monastery and Parish.

Saint Charbel’s Monastery and Parish offers comfort, counselling, and a sense of peace for the local community especially during difficult times.

This election commitment will be providing funding towards the first stage of the project that includes a multipurpose room, youth facilities and a space that provides a spiritual and cultural sense of belonging.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to the Tony Burke MP:

“St Charbel’s Parish is an important part of the Maronite community that fosters a sense of belonging. I am proud to support a project that enhances and strengthens family and community ties with their parish.

“I look forward to seeing this project flourish in the years to come, knowing that a Labor Government has supported this important initiative.

“A Parish like St Charbel’s isn’t only a place where people go to church.

This funding will add to the existing parish, nursing home and school a space for improved parking and a community centre– effectively turning the precinct into a village.”
