
In a significant show of community engagement, Al Minia Charitable Association held a well-attended public meeting on Monday, April 21, 2025, at its Chester Hill Centre, welcoming prominent political figures and members of the wider community to discuss key issues facing local families and the future of children in the area.
The event, part of the association’s ongoing commitment to fostering an informed and active community, featured a special appearance by federal Labor MPs the Hon. Tony Burke MP and The Hon. Jason Clare MP, both of whom are standing for re-election in the upcoming federal election.
The evening began with a warm welcome from Association MC Mr. Moustapha Mahfoud, who acknowledged the presence of a number of distinguished guests, including Minister for Education Jason Clare MP, Minister for Immigration Tony Burke MP, Jihad Dib MP, Minister Sophie Cotsis MP, Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed, Mayor Bilal El-Hayek – City of Canterbury Bankstown, Deputy Mayor Khodr Saleh, Crl Rachelle Harika, as well as religious leaders, community representatives, media figures, and a large gathering of local residents.
Vice President Nazih Keir also addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming election and encouraging the Arabic-speaking community to support Burke and Clare, highlighting their long-standing contributions to multicultural communities and their advocacy on behalf of local residents.
Both Mr. Burke and Mr. Clare took the opportunity to speak about key policy issues, including improvements in healthcare and education, housing affordability, wage increases, and tax relief under a continued Labor government. They reiterated their dedication to serving their electorates and underlined Labor’s vision for a more inclusive and supportive Australia.
“Events like these are vital,” said Mr. Burke, “because they strengthen the connections between community members and those who represent them, helping to build a more united and resilient society.”
The event concluded with a heartfelt address by Sheikh Dr. Fayez Saif, who underscored the importance of unity, civic responsibility, and active participation. His powerful message inspired the audience with a renewed sense of community solidarity and encouraged strong engagement in the upcoming crucial election, including support for Labor candidates Tony Burke and Jason Clare.
