Alex de Minaur has obliterated Alexander Bublik in straight sets on Rod Laver Arena, after superstars Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz progressed through to the last eight of the Australian Open. Follow live.

Australian sixth seed de Minaur edged Bublik in a tight first set, which was at one point on serve at 4-4, before putting his foot down.

Bublik unravelled in the third set as de Minaur ran out a 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 winner.

De Minaur will now play Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.

Women’s top seed Sabalenka defeated Canada’s Victoria Mboko in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6 (7/1), to reach the quarterfinals, while men’s world number one Alcaraz also progressed with a 7-6 (8/6), 6-4, 7-5 victory over American Tommy Paul.

the day for you. We didn’t see too many close ones out there, and in fact we saw a handful of absolute drubbings, but the standard of play was very high throughout.

For the Aussies, Alex de Minaur was the story. He’s through to his second ever Australian Open quarterfinal and could not have been more impressive in getting there. He will face Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday, as tough a task as there is in the game, but will have the nation behind him and a healthy amount of belief.

Tomorrow we get to watch Maddison Inglis take on Iga Swiatek as the Aussie qualifier attempts to keep her incredible story going.

Here at ABC Sport AO blog HQ, we hope you will join us again tomorrow for whatever the day brings. See you then!

Svitolina strikes first against Andreeva

Interesting. Elina Svitolina gets two breaks away in the first set to take it 6-2 from Mirra Andreeva.

Perhaps I was a little optimistic in thinking this match would be a little closer than some others today.

Andreeva has left the court briefly to regroup between sets, and will be looking to bounce back swiftly. She has no choice, really.

It’s a mini-capitulation in the end for Mirra Andreeva, who is broken and defeated by Elina Svitolina.

A missed backhand in that crucial game saw Andreeva’s racquet hurled to the ground in disgust. A double fault then gave Svitolina her first match point, which Andreeva saved, but on the second in the deuce a scorching forehand winner sealed the deal for Svitolina.

That’s an impressive win for the number 12 seed, who has some momentum building up here at Melbourne Park. Andreeva heads home earlier than she would have hoped, but she will undoubedtly have longer runs at this tournament in the future.
