The official opening of the new Bankstown Plaza last week marked a significant milestone in the ongoing Southwest Metro project, bringing renewed energy and connectivity to the heart of the local community.
The event was attended by Minister Jihad Dib MP, Minister John Graham, Kylie Wilkinson MP, Mayor Bilal El-Hayek – City of Canterbury Bankstown, Councillor David Walsh , community representative Uncle John, along with distinguished members of the local community, businesses owners and media representatives, including Mamdouh Sukkarieh, Editor-in-Chief of The World Observer.
The newly unveiled plaza is set to play a vital role as a key pedestrian link, connecting the northern and southern sides of the Bankstown CBD. This development enhances accessibility, encourages foot traffic, and contributes to the broader vision of a more connected and vibrant city centre.
Community members have warmly welcomed the project, viewing it as an important step forward in the transformation of Bankstown. Anticipation is already building for the next major milestone—the completion and opening of the Bankstown to Sydney Metro, expected to further improve transport links and support the area’s continued growth.
