After years of local infrastructure lagging behind population growth, families in Sydney’s South-West have been given a first look at designs for upgrades at three local public schools, as the Minns Labor Government works to ensure all students can access high-quality schools close to home.
Delivering on these projects, committed to at last year’s State election, are key to the Minns Labor Government’s plans to rebuild public education. These schools will provide young families in South-West Sydney with world-class school facilities, with demountables set to be removed to make way for permanent, purpose-built school buildings.
As part of upgrade works at Greenway Park Public School, eight new classrooms will be built, replacing eight demountables. One of the new classrooms will be fitted with amenities allowing for conversion into a support unit for students with additional needs, if required. Planning work for the school upgrade is well underway, with construction set to begin mid-next year for completion in mid-2026.
Planning for the new Greenway Park Public Preschool is also progressing well, with the new service set to open by 2027, providing places for 60 children per day.
Dalmeny Public School is also undergoing a major upgrade, including the construction of 16 new classrooms, including two classrooms that can convert into support unit classrooms. These upgrade works will see 16 demountables removed. Construction is set to begin mid-next year, with completion expected in mid-2026.
Work is also progressing for a new public high school for Leppington, set to be co-located with Leppington Public School. The new high school set to open on Day 1, Term 1, 2027.
Major upgrade works are also underway at Leppington Public School, which will see the school receive 20 new permanent classrooms, three support learning classrooms, a new hall, a covered outdoor learning area (COLA) and an upgraded administration area and library.
A further expansion of the school, funded in the Minns Labor Government’s 2024-2025 budget, will increase the school’s capacity, and include the delivery of a new, co-located public preschool.
Leppington was identified as being in the top 10 fastest growth areas for enrolments in the state in the NSW Government’s Enrolment Growth Audit, with the number of students close to tripling between 2018 and 2023.
Despite this, the Liberals and Nationals failed to adequately plan for the growth in the area, leaving demountables filling school playgrounds, and a growing school infrastructure backlog.
As part of the Minns Labor Government’s plan to rebuild public education, the Minns Labor Government is investing a record $3.6 billion to upgrade and build new schools in Western Sydney, addressing the backlog left by the former government.
Upcoming information sessions for Greenway Park Public School and Dalmeny Public School are set to be held this month. Further information below.
