On Tuesday, 10 August 2021 in a meeting with fellow Liberal Party State Government Members, Tanya Davies MP, Melanie Gibbons MP and I, fought very hard for the tradespeople, workers and business owners who earn a living in the construction industry across the eight impacted Local Government Area’s in Sydney.
The NSW Government announced a difficult decision on Saturday, 7 August 2021 about how to get the construction sector back to work in the current COVID-19 outbreak, which was formulated in conjunction with Industry representatives. In my view, it is important to get people back to work.
I have been fully vaccinated and members of my family have been vaccinated. I am for vaccinations, but also for an even playing field. Construction workers across the eight impacted LGA’s should have the same rules applied to them as the rest of the construction sector across NSW. This will not only be fair from a health point of view but from an economic one. An unvaccinated worker from North Sydney or Cronulla should not be able to attend a construction site, the same as an unvaccinated worker from East Hills. The rules need to be consistent and fair across the board.
So I say to the construction industry workers across the eight impacted LGA’s, talk to your GP, go and get vaccinated and get back to what you’re good at – building stuff.
Saturday’s announcement needs a re-think with rapid antigen testing added into the mix and ensuring that it treats all construction workers the same, regardless of where they come from. I will always fight for the people of East Hills
