A man has been charged after allegedly crashing a van carrying more than $200 million of the drug ice into a parked police car in Sydney.
It is alleged 26-year-old Simon Tu hit the patrol car yesterday about 10:30am, as it was parked outside Eastwood Police Station in the city’s north-west.
The impact from the van, a Toyota HiAce, crushed the front of the marked sedan and also pushed it into a parked police van sitting beside it.
The incident was captured on CCTV.
No officers were injured in the crash.
Police alleged Mr Tu drove away from the scene, only to be stopped by officers an hour later in the nearby suburb of Ryde.
The van he was driving was searched and boxes allegedly containing more than 273 kilograms of methylamphetamine were found in the back.
The Toyota van was also seized for a forensic examination.
Mr Tu, from Berala, has been charged with large commercial drug supply, negligent driving and not giving particulars to police.
He was refused bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court today.
Police are asking anyone with dash-cam footage from the area, or any information about the van’s movements, to get in touch with investigators.
