NSW:
NSW recorded 587 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
NSW Health has reported another eight deaths. A western Sydney man in his 20s was one of two people who died at home.
Of the other people who sadly passed away, one person was in their 50s, two were in their 60s, two were in their 70s, and two were in their 80s.
Five people were not vaccinated, one person had received one dose, and two people with underlying health conditions had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
If you are directed to get tested for COVID 19 or self-isolate at any time, you must follow the rules whether or not the venue or exposure setting is listed on the NSW Health website.
It remains vital that anyone who has any symptoms or is a close or casual contact of a person with COVID-19, isolates and is tested immediately. When testing clinics are busy, please ensure you stay in line, identify yourself to staff and tell them that you have symptoms or are a contact of a case.
Victoria:
For Victorians still glued to the daily COVID-19 figures, it has been a grim week.
The number of new infections reached a nationwide record, with 1,763 cases recorded from Monday’s tests.
A day later, 11 more people with COVID-19 died.
And there are warnings the rising numbers will have a direct effect on the state’s health system, which is already straining under pressure.
But amidst the bad news, there is some cause for optimism — largely due to vaccination.
ACT:
The ACT has recorded 41 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19.
At least five of the new cases were infectious in the community and 24 are yet to be linked to a known source.
There are currently 15 people in hospital with the virus.
Seven people are in intensive care – six of those requiring ventilation.
ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith also confirmed more cases had been linked to a growing cluster at the special care nursery at the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.
