MORE EXPRESS SERVICES – GETTING YOU FURTHER FASTER, MORE OFTEN

0

Trains under a Minns Labor Government will get travellers further, faster more often, by delivering more express services.

NSW Labor will deliver more express services by conducting a review of timetables across both the Sydney Metropolitan Network and the wider NSW Trains network.

Suburban stations across Sydney including Granville have seen cuts to their express connections to the CBD.

Labor’s timetable review will assess the real needs of communities for more efficient train services. This will be crucial because the last review of the timetable occurred before the pandemic in 2019. Key points include:

  • The review will also deal with how to deliver the transport services of the future given that work patterns and travel patterns have permanently shifted.
  • This will include looking at how to flatten the peak on public transport and better utilise the transport infrastructure that we have.
  • It will also consider providing more frequent services all day rather than only during the traditional morning and evening peaks.

The review of the train timetables will be coordinated with other modes to ensure a seamless journey for customers.

NSW LABOR GOES INTO BAT FOR COMMUNITY SPORT

NSW Labor will commit to increasing the funding for Sport NSW and its constituent State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) to help end the crisis in community sport.

There are approximately 100 recognised State Sporting Organisations in NSW including Netball NSW, Touch Football NSW, Athletics NSW and Football NSW.

A November 2022 report from Sport NSW found community sport organisations are still receiving the same level of funding today as they were when Sydney staged the Olympics in 2000 – over two decades ago.

When factoring in inflation, this is effectively a funding reduction in real terms of 67.1 per cent. As a result, it’s left community sport in a state of crisis and chronic underfunding.

That’s why if elected, NSW Labor has agreed to step up the Organisation Support Program funding to $5 million in 2023-24 and $10 million per year in the years after as a part of multi-year agreements.
