Padstow Park is set to become an exciting football hub for the Canterbury-Bankstown community, with the opening of a brand-new all-weather synthetic field.
Junior football players, the elite and those just wanting to kick some goals will be able to play all year-round at the Padstow Park Synthetic Field.
The multimillion-dollar facility is the third of its kind in Canterbury-Bankstown, providing a Western hub of community football in the City.
Stage one upgrades include a new FIFA certified synthetic turf, miniroos field, along with new sports field lighting. The next stage will see upgrades to amenities and car parking.
Padstow Park Synthetic Field was officially opened by Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour and members of the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) on Saturday 25 February.
The opening was celebrated with a plaque unveiling and a variety of mini games with different teams in the BDAFA competition.
Mayor Asfour said he was thrilled to see the fantastic new facility embraced by the football community and encouraged all locals to check it out.
“We’ve scored a hat trick with our third all-weather synthetic field in Canterbury-Bankstown” Mayor Asfour said.
“Synthetic fields promote our community being active and healthy all year round.
“Rain, hail or shine, locals will be able to get out on the footy field and kick goals!”
The field will be enjoyed by all grassroots and representative teams weekly and will be available for public use when games are not in play.
In February alone, the Padstow Park Synthetic Field has been utilised by 11 different BDAFA community clubs, providing more than 70 hours’ worth of playing time.
BDAFA General Manager Leanne Millar said there has been a huge uptake in the use of the new synthetic field from local clubs both training and playing their trial games.
“The community is really excited about having access to a facility of this calibre in Bankstown. It’s been a long time coming,” Ms Millar said.
Padstow Park Synthetic Field is proudly funded by the Australian Government and City of Canterbury Bankstown.
